====== Source and licence ====== Both editions are free software under the **GNU General Public License, version 2 or later**. Copyright (C) 2026 Michael Slater (Heisenberg). ===== Desktop edition ===== Free Pascal 3.2.2 and Lazarus 4.4 (LCL, GTK2 on Linux). Source: ''brokenseal-0.6.1-source.tar.gz'' from the downloads page (also installed with the game: ''/usr/share/doc/brokenseal/'' on Linux, the ''docs'' folder on Windows). make # bin/brokenseal make test # the rules tests and the desktop tests (about 17,000 checks, including a 10,000-month run) make gui-test # plays the real window under Xvfb ''docs/BUILD.txt'' in the source has the details, including the Windows cross-build and the MSI. ===== Browser edition ===== TypeScript, bundled with esbuild. It needs Node.js 18 or later; the Pascal cross-checks also need Free Pascal and the desktop source. npm install npm run build # the page, in dist/ npm run build:server # the online games server, in dist-server/ npm test # every check The browser edition is checked against the desktop edition's own code: * the desktop's test suites, ported with the same number of checks; * whole campaigns played by both engines from the same start, with every kind of player order, compared byte for byte after every month; * hex battles, compared step by step and picture by picture; * 625 screens, compared pixel by pixel; * the interface and the online server, played through by scripts and in a headless browser. The rule for changes: anything changed in one edition is changed in the other, and the checks must still match. Online play is the one part that exists only in the browser edition. ===== The online server ===== The online games server is in the browser edition's source, in ''server/''. It runs the same game code as the page, under Node.js, with no other software needed. ''server/README.md'' describes its settings, its files and its admin commands.
