Saves
Desktop edition
Saves are kept in %APPDATA%\BrokenSeal on Windows and ~/.local/share/brokenseal/ on Linux. They are left alone when you upgrade or uninstall.
- Autosaves: the game saves as you plan, and before and after each month.
- Named saves: Campaign (8), then Save as. Quicksave and Quickload keep one quick slot.
- Save files end in
.bseal.
Browser edition
Saves are kept in the browser's own storage on your computer, about 5 MB, which is room for about 100 saves. They are not on the server, so they stay on that computer and that browser. Clearing the browser's site data deletes them.
- Export (in the Load or Save as window) downloads a campaign as a
.bsealfile. Keep copies of campaigns you care about this way. - Import opens a
.bsealfile, from the browser or the desktop edition. - The game also saves itself at the end of every month, and warns you before you leave the page with unsaved changes.
- Only one tab can play at a time.
Multi-player games are kept on the server, not in your browser: see Multi-player games.
Moving between editions
The save format is the same in both editions, so a campaign can move either way: Export it from the browser and open it in the desktop edition, or Import a desktop save into the browser.
Old saves
Saves from earlier versions open in the current one; the game updates them when it next saves.
Before 0.6.0, several people could take turns at one computer (hotseat). A campaign saved like that still opens: you keep the house that was playing when it was saved, the computer leads the others, and the game tells you so. The file itself changes only when you save.
